The Tennessee Courts website has an FAQ page for parents and a Self Help Center with court forms and guides.

The state has also published its child custody laws online (starting on page 238).

Legal assistance

Legal aid societies throughout Tennessee provide help to low-income parents.

Parents of all income levels can get help finding an attorney through the Tennessee Bar Association.

Justice For All Tennessee has court forms and lists of local resources.

Help for victims of domestic violence and child abuse

The Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence helps victims find nearby help.

Victims can get access to an emergency shelter and a 24-hour helpline through the YWCA of Nashville and Middle Tennessee.

You can report child abuse and neglect through Tennessee's Department of Children's Services.

The Memphis Child Advocacy Center offers screening, therapy and long-term guidance to child abuse victims to help them overcome their trauma.

Child support services

Child support is handled by the Department of Human Services. Through the department's website, you can download the Child Support Calculator. For help establishing paternity and getting or enforcing child support orders, contact your local child support office.
